Summer has arrived and we’ve officially reached the halfway point of 2021. Most people are either on vacation, preparing for vacation, or wishing they could go on one. Question for you: “What is one thing you said you wanted to do this year to MOVE FORWARD?”… Now, before you are too harsh on yourself in evaluating your progress, remember that for many the first step is the hardest one.
For the past several months, we have been on the journey with Moses as our guide to Moving Forward. Like us, he had to heed God’s admonishment to move forward by taking a step toward the Red Sea. As he did, things began to happen for him, the nation of people that were relocating to the Promised Land.
“But the people of Israel had walked through the middle of the sea on dry ground, as the water stood up like a wall on both sides. That is how the Lord rescued Israel from the hand of the Egyptians that day. Then Moses and the people of Israel sang this song to the Lord…” Exodus 14:29-30 & 15:1, NLT
Did you see how they responded? They started singing. Praising the Lord for assistance in Moving Forward. It is so important to pause and celebrate when we are doing something new or challenging. This year, one of our RLF Team members, Maxine Peterson, took the first step in making her dream a reality. Four years ago, I had to go to LensCrafters to get some new glasses. While I was there, I met a very pleasant rep who shared a dream to open a nonprofit to help teenage moms learn life skills. She was a teenage mom and wanted to serve the Lord through those who were in the same situation she once was. I was taken by her story, gave her my card, and said, “If you are serious, you call me, and I will help you.” She called, I gave her a role on the Youth Mentoring Collaborative team, and over the past couple of years I have watched her grow.
Earlier this year during a conversation, the idea of the nonprofit came up again. She expressed that trying to start a nonprofit, being a mother of two kids, and working seemed overwhelming. I encouraged her to take a small step and just register her nonprofit with the state. We prayed, she submitted her paperwork, and two weeks ago she was notified that it was approved. Praise the Lord!!!! Like the Israelites, I want to sing. The song that comes to mind is an old Kool & the Gang Song. C’mon sing with me…
“Celebrate good times, come on! (Let’s celebrate) Celebrate good times, come on! (Let’s celebrate) There’s a party goin’ on right here. A celebration to last throughout the years. So bring your good times and your laughter too. We gonna celebrate your party with you. Come on now, celebration. Let’s all celebrate and have a good time.”
I am so elated for Maxine and the example she is for her two children. Their mom is a great example of what happens when a person puts her faith in the Lord and takes the first step to Move Forward.
To you reading this, our team is praying that you will continue to join us in Moving Forward this year to honor the Lord with acts of faith. If you have done something this year, like Maxine, please pause and sing a song of celebration!
